Leading building services specialist SCS Group has raised over £4000 for premature and sick babies.
On 3rd September the firm took part in the Race the Sun challenge to raise funds for Action for Children, starting a gruelling athletic challenge at sunrise and finishing by sunset.
Two SCS Group teams cycled a total of 50 miles (80kms), hiked to the summit of England’s second highest mountain Helvellyn at 3,116ft (950m) and canoed a 2.5 mile (4kms) course on Thirlmere.
The company was kindly supported by suppliers including Flaktwoods, Alan Williams and Co and Simon RWA in their valiant efforts to raise funds to stop the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability.
A few team members ended up with serious bruising and scraping after a few tumbles from bikes during the event, but despite the setbacks managed to complete the challenge in 12 hours.
The money raised by SCS Group will go to Action Medical Research’s Touching Tiny Lives appeal, which helps to reduce the number of babies affected by pregnancy complications, tackle premature birth and improve the care of sick and vulnerable babies.
SCS Group Managing Director Allan Meek said:
“Every year in the UK, over 7,500 babies are stillborn or die before their first birthday while many more suffer debilitating illnesses. A number of us at SCS Group are parents so this is a cause close to our heart.
“It was hard going on the mountain climb towards the end because it was pouring with rain and very windy but the discomfort was nothing compared to what some children go to, and that thought kept us going. The generosity of our sponsors meant we were able to beat our fundraising target which made the whole ordeal more than worthwhile.”
